Horizontal Sideways Lightning Strikes
This had to be one of the scariest lightning photo shoots and chases I have ever been on. This is one big burst of lighting. I t would come out horizontally from nowhere like a giant branch from a tree. At one point when I was on the side of this mountain all the hair on my body started to get static and stand up. I could smell an electrical odor in the air. All signs and I could tell a charge was building and had to run for cover.
This is the Pinnacle Peak Area, in North Scottsdale, Arizona. It is higher than the rest of the valley. Lucky for me I got the strike but did not get struck. The original image was shot on film.
